Garage Door Opener Repair

Opener Repair and Installation in Long Beach

An opener is a small motor doing an easy job when the door is balanced, and an impossible job when it is not. That is why the first thing we check on any opener call is the door itself. If the springs are tired, the rollers are dragging, or the track is out of alignment, a new opener will fail the same way the old one did, only faster.

121melody repairs and installs chain drive, belt drive, and wall-mount openers across Long Beach, and we test the safety systems on every visit whether you called about them or not.

UL 325 Entrapment Protection

Every residential opener manufactured since 1993 has to provide entrapment protection under UL 325. There are two independent systems and both must work:

You can test both yourself in under a minute. Wave a broom through the beam as the door closes and watch it reverse. Then lay a two by four flat on the floor in the door path and let the door close onto it. It should touch and immediately go back up.

Photo eyes mounted high are the most common problem we find. Sensors zip-tied at knee height or higher will happily miss a toddler or a pet sitting in the doorway, which is exactly what they exist to catch. We reset them to the correct height and alignment, every time.

What We Actually Repair

Not every opener needs replacing. Common repairs that are worth doing:

When Replacement Makes More Sense

If the unit predates 1993 it has no photo eyes at all, and that alone is reason enough. Beyond that, an opener with a failed board and a worn gear is usually past the point where repair is the better spend. New installs are worth choosing carefully:

The Install and Service Standard

We square and secure the rail, set travel limits at both ends, tune the force settings to the door weight, mount the photo eyes under six inches and align them, then run both safety tests with you watching. Before any of that, we disconnect the opener and check the door balance by hand, because an opener bolted to an unbalanced door is a repair with a short future.
